FIRST RATIONALE
Produced at the beginning of the module:
· I want to develop a practice into hand drawn illustration and character design, I would also like to use type as image within my work, which will help me produce work with creative outcomes and develop my skills in combining type and image.
· I will continue investigating the relationship between the hand made and digital processes, in the production of well crafted, vibrant, well informed, print based design.
· I am inspired by bold designs that have subtlety, attention to detail & hidden meaning; these are elements, which I would like to include within my work.
· I like to produce work, which works as a set or a series, this shows variation, I also like to have a limited edition value to my work. Which brings across that my work is authentic or a collectable.
· This year I want to produce work which will leave me with a strong portfolio, which is focused and shows me as a designer. A portfolio that brings across a style and covers a range of design skills.
EXTENDED RATIONAL:
I agree with the points I made on the first rationale at the start of the module. However I have covered more areas of design throughout this module, I have used different design strategies and developed my way of designing. This I would like to extend within my final major project and my own design practice.
· I would like to continue working with limitations of colour within my work, rather than always working with vibrant colours. I will work with colours which are appropriate for the briefs which I am creating work for. This will help me create bold design work which has strong impact.
· I have began to create more design based work rather than just predominantly hand crafted design, I will continue to experiment with how typography works with subtle imagery
· I have developed an interest into how typography and layout can be used to create bold compositions from just using letterforms and different weights of the same typeface. I will continue to include more considered typography within my work.
· I will continue develop my understanding of print process and effective design, by using appropriate stocks and print process’s for necessary briefs.
I have found that ‘less is more’ is a good phrase to go by when creating effective design, especially if I want subtly and hidden meaning within my work. For example if my work is always detailed and busy, there is no consistency, therefore the subtly is lost and replaced by over complicated designs. This I will continue to build on through the restof my third year.
